If you are reading this, it may be that you are thinking about counselling for yourself or for someone you know. You may be feeling upset, anxious, confused, depressed or all of these things. The task of finding the ‘right’ person to contact, and then making that first phone call or sending that email might feel overwhelming. You would not be alone in having these feelings.
As an experienced counsellor, I will always respond sensitively and gently to your first enquiry and you will have taken the first step towards sharing thoughts and feelings that you may have battled to contain alone for many years. The first contact will not commit or tie you in to anything; decisions about whether I might be the right person to work with you, or can offer the specific therapeutic approach that would be most appropriate for your needs, would not be made until after the initial assessment. You will never be ‘tied in’ to working with any counsellor if you do not feel entirely comfortable with the relationship.
